I was browsing my Twitter feed when I found a tweet from @thespec aka. The Hamilton Spectator of interest to me. It was in regards to an accident on the Linc near Upper Gage. As a frequent user of the Linc, I decided to check it out. Here’s a link to the article if you wish to check it out. CLICK HERE!!!
If you don’t want to read it here’s the short version. A younger driver lost control of his vehicle going west, went through the median and hit a car going east. Youth is in hospital with serious injuries.
The thing that gets me is that there are nine comments on the article and only ONE out of NINE made any reference to hoping the driver is okay. They are all pointing blame. One comment reads “Youth Kills”, um what?
THAT IS BULL!!! Yes sir, you are correct, youths are the only people in the world who get in car accidents. Great statement you’ve made there. (ps. note the sarcasm that I can barely contain). Secondly, everyone assumes he was on the phone. So a decade ago when teenagers didn’t have cell phones were there never any accidents? Huh? I almost want to create an account on The Spec’s website just to comment on everyone’s rude comments. I’m sure all these people would be singing a different note had they known the driver of that car. If they were currently waiting at the Hamilton General to hear the condition of their son, brother, nephew, or friend knowing there’s a chance for a sad outcome right before the holidays.
Until you know the facts, keep your negativity to yourself. Take note: If you don’t have anything nice (or of value ahem“youth kills” ahem) to say, don’t say anything at all. Accidents happen unfortunately.
I would like to take this time to hope that the 18-year-old driver is going to be okay and recover from his injuries and hope his family is holding up well. This is why the world is the way it is. There are too many people who would rather say “you suck” then “good try” or “it’s your fault” rather then “hope you’re okay” or laugh at a joke made at someone’s expense then defend that person.
Honestly people it’s the holidays. Lets be cheerful and happy. Lets be supportive of each other. Lets help the hungry and homeless. Smile at a stranger. Hold the door open for someone. When someone gets hurt, wish them a speedy recovery.
I’m wishing all of you a very Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year, and safe holidays all around.
Note to The Hamilton Spectator this article should be categorized as News: Local not News: Crime as a crime was not commited. An accident was in the local area so lets label correctly. Please and thank you.
Very well put!! Thank you.
