There is nothing I hate more than a movie that doesn’t have a proper ending, ahem ahem The Romantics. I’m sure not many of you have heard about or even watched this movie, however I have just watched it and am super annoyed. What happens at the end? Does Katie Holmes and Josh Duhamel get together? Or does he marry his controlling and patronizing finance, Sookie from Tru Blood? I don’t know her real name and to be honest, there were too many characters to remember their names.
But surprisingly enough there were a lot of big names in the movie. Katie Holmes, Josh Duhamel, Adam Brody, Anna Paquin, Malin Akerman, Elijah Wood and Dianna Agron. Quite a few big names, good looking cast, this cast should have definitely been able to bring a crowd to the theatres. However, it got a limited release maybe because of its lack of ending.
This movie was definitely odd. It definitely makes it look like all relationships have some serious issues. Josh was with Katie forever, but is going to marry Anna, Katie’s best friend. Adam is engaged to a girl, but makes out with Malin who is married. Adam doesn’t want to get married, Malin’s husband doesn’t trust her and Elijah is just an ass in the midst of all this. Is this truly real life? Does this resemble someone’s life because that is just sad.
The movie is kind of slow moving, the lighting is dark, though this could be due to the fact that I watched it on my laptop. I enjoyed Josh and Katie the most in this movie but I think it’s just because I like to believe they were soul mates of some sort, and he was with Anna because he was scared or stupid, perhaps he was scared stupid. I just think Katie deserved him and didn’t deserve to be replaced by Anna. He led Katie on to believe that she was the one for so long, I liked to believe she was the one and Josh will come to see that too.
But who knows? Truly who knows? Cause there is no ending. I want to know. Really I do. I almost feel like if I watch the movie again, an ending will be there or maybe I’ll notice something I missed and it’ll provide me with some sort of answers.
Who knows? I don’t. I’m just rambling now. Just because I am dying to know how it ends, does not mean it was great in the least. I felt sometimes like they were reading their parts. Especially between Katie and Josh when they fought. I like when movies are realistic, when couples fight the way I imagine or actually see them fight, or they experience things the way real couples do. I don’t know, this movie seemed to unrealistic and dramatic for my tastes but I still do want to know what would happen next. I will never be pulled to watch it again and that says alot when I am like a serial movie watcher, I watch them over and over and over and when you’re sick of a movie, I’ll probably watch it over and over and over again still.
I’ve yet to review a movie that is not in the theatre but considering I’ve ranted about this movie, I think it’s only fair to provide if with stars. So…

I fall a sleep watching this movie
ReplyDeletei felt the exact same way as you, you wrote what i was thinking
ReplyDeletei agree! i love josh duhamel in general so i thought him & katie belonged together. but the ending ticked me off too. if anyone has any input please post cause it annoyed me!
ReplyDeleteI think his speech makes it so that you can assume he is about to say he can't go through with it and the moment at the very end where he looks at Katie and sees that she understands the frustration, he gets comfortable, hinting he will pick her once he figures out how to explain the problems away.
ReplyDeleteabove and also lila says maybe i can say for u during his vow which pretty much means that they get back together...though i believe there should have been a proper ending to this!
ReplyDeleteThe character you keep referring to as Anna is actually Lyla.
ReplyDeleteJust watched the movie and came across this blog post because I was looking for some post, somewhere on the interwebs, that could possibly explain the ending. Apparently I'm not alone, seeing as the only posts I've happened across just show viewers' anger at the lack of ending to the movie.
ReplyDeleteThere's no resolution!
I get that it's an independent and art, but I can't stand movies that drop off without letting you even get a hint at what would possibly come next in the story.
The climax of the story basically happens only about two minutes before it ends! And the ending does not resolve the climax at all.
Extremely frustrating, to say the least.
I was just going to post something similar to the one posted by BTLovesToDraw. I was frustrated after watching the movie too and came across this blog post while searching for a post-movie ending. Seems like I'm not alone :)
ReplyDeleteIts an indie movie and thats why it is the way it is. Its raw and real life. Not everything is concluded in life and not everything has answers. Love is not cookie cutter and I thought this movie was great, it strays away from all the boring romantic comedies that are all exactly the same. Give your self an imagination and pick an ending for yourself. You dont always need the cinema to provide answers for you or tell you how it should be. Be eventful and take it as it is.
ReplyDeleteAlso the reason why its so dark is because its an uncut film, dosnt have the hollywood glam. Much better to connect with.
Looks like I'm not alone who is mad about the movie's ending...it really drives me crazy because there's nothing that even hints about what happened afterwards, Laura n Tom ddnt hug or kiss or anything, they just stood EXACTLY where they were before it started raining and they just laughed... The director or whoever came up with the movie is stupid!
