Movie Review: Something Borrowed :)

Something Borrowed was something fantastic let me tell you. I loved it. Loved it, loved it, loved it and let me stress again, I loved it. I saw it Friday evening because I wanted to show my support to the opening weekend. As my readers know, I blogged about Something Borrowed once I heard the book was turned into a movie and the trailer was released; I nearly had a heart attack due to excitement.

Unfortunately, all my attempts to win premiere passes to the Toronto premiere failed, thanks a lot Warner Brothers Entertainment, Virgin Radio 99.9 and all other stupid contests I joined for absolutely nothing. So Friday came and two friends and myself went to the Hamilton Mountain theatre at 9pm, 45 minutes before the movie started to ensure tickets. And what was posted when we got there? A sign stated Something Borrowed was sold out.

So after a brief period of depression, we booked it out of there and headed to the theatre in Burlington because it doesn’t tend to be as busy as the other two theatres in Hamilton. And smart decision by me, the movie wasn’t sold out and we got the last spot of three seats in the theatre, fate I tell you.

Now the movie, it’s great. It does a good job translating the book to the big screen. I know things were left out and stuff was added. But they can’t put every little detail into the movie, there are time restraints (however not when it came to the Titanic). The actors were spot on for the characters in the book. Ginnifer Goodwin was a great Rachel, ad Kate Hudson drove me insane as Darcy, as she should have and Colin Egglesfield was simply beautiful as Dex. Pure Perfection. I’ve fallen in love. Also, John Krasinski was hilarious as Ethan. One person I didn’t like very much was the dude who played Marcus. He was very funny and random however, I just assumed he’d be better looking or more smooth. He’s like a boho skater child bum in the movie. I don’t even know if that description makes sense. I just thought he’d be different, but at least he was entertaining. But what’s with the man ponytail? Not many men, if any can really pull that off and he couldn’t. Especially having it half up, like c’mon, that’s a women’s hairstyle.

I loved so much about the movie. It was great. I love how they brought Dex's parents into the movie. It allowed us to understand Dex more and why he stayed with Darcy during the affair. Also, I love the flashbacks, and the build up of his relationship with Rachel starting in law school. However, there is something I hated and this will be a spoiler alert to those of you want to watch the movie. I hated, absolutely hated that Ethan told Rachel he loved her. Um, hello screenwriters he doesn’t do that in the book and if you read the second book in the series Something Blue and intended to make a sequel, you’d know Ethan hooks up with Darcy. So what, he loved Rachel this year and is going to love her best friend next year? Not a big fan of that idea. However, I forgive you screenwriters, just because I loved the movie, so damn much.

And though I hate these two together (however they do look gorgeous together) and I hate this scene is the movie because it makes Rachel jealous (however would be cute if I was Team Darcy&Dex) I just want  to you marvel in the beauty that was Dexter Thaler. Great casting and great styling, Dex was dressed great. Darcy rocked some smoking outfits too, however Rachel was kinda boring but that was her character.
And my rating, though some of you may disagree is:

5-star
I am a fan of the book series, Ginnifer Goodwin, Kate Hudson, thoroughly enjoyed the movie and am currently in love with Colin Egglesfield. All this classifies the 5-star rating, my highest rate yet I believe.

Also I won’t say that I’m going to see the movie multiple times in the theatre but I won’t say I’m not. But if anyone needs a buddy to go see this movie, I will offer up my company.
Smile

  1. I saw this movie last night with my wife. We both liked and enjoyed it very well. The best element was the acting.
