A few days ago I wrote a blog about a stabbing in Ottawa and how much I seemed to sympathize with the attacker. Well, after reading a different article, writing from a different angle I feel completely different. I’m still sad that two lives were directly destroyed from this one incident, not mentioning all the other lives it affected.
But this article does not paint the picture of a young, skinny, meek boy who seemed to have too many beers, get in a fight which resulted in death. The accused, Ben Taylor, was already faces charges “including assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm, in connection with a Feb. 12 incident in which he allegedly hit another man over the head with a beer bottle” (Ottawa Citizen).
Seriously, lets learn from previous mistakes. One, stop drinking so much. Two, stop fighting when drinking. Three, stop picking up items when drinking. You’re eighteen!!! Why the heck are you fighting so much? Look where its got you. In a prison cell very shortly. And yes this story still makes me sad and I do feel bad for you but why, why do people do stupid things when they are drunk.
Apparently, Taylor also sucker punched the victim when the victim tried to help the home owner clear out the party that soon became out of hand. Taylor and the victim fought, and now Scott Ledoux’s life is over, and in a way so is Ben Taylor.
Maybe I’m still thinking about this because just this past Sunday, a guy I went to high school with passed away. It was an accident, no one else was involved. But lives this short don’t deserve to end. This guy was a good guy, he was nice and funny and though I probably only talked to him on the rare occasions we saw each other the last few years, I hate it when so suddenly a person whose barely been on this earth for 24 years tragically loses his life in an accident.
Then we have fools who fight each other and end someone else’s life. No one deserves to have their life physically taken away from them. People deserved to have things in their lives taken away if they commit crimes, but never should people be able or take the life of someone else.
I’ll ramble like this all night, that is all. Though I do feel bad for Ben, he made a decision and that decision is going to cost him big time unfortunately.
