My Review: The Academy Awards

So I watched a good 90% of the awards tonight, much like the Grammies, it was my first time ever watching. I must say it wasn’t bad. I was on twitter the whole time as I was with the Grammies and everyone was ragging on how boring the show was.

But seriously people, it’s the Academy Awards, it’s not the MTV Movie Awards or MTV Music Awards. These are respected films, creative films, prestigious films. They are not stupid comedies, chick flicks and cheesy musicals that your hosts can parody and it’ll be hilarious and I’m pretty sure a ton of people were offended after the Golden Globes, when all the guests were torn to shreds.

To be honest, the only reason I watched were the hosts, James Franco and Anne Hathaway. I thought they did a great job. There is only so much they can do to make the show a bit better. It’s not like there are musical performances or time of skits because everyone wants to thank so many people. They do what they can with it. People know the show is going to be a bit boring so why do they complain when they watch and it is boring? The only people who are super excited for the Academy Awards are the nominees because to win is a huge honour.

Also, there are only what 6 out of 20 awards that people care about and 3 of them are the last ones. The speeches can’t be that interesting because this is a often a once in a lifetime event, they need to truly thank people. Unless you’re the dude who won Best Song for Toy Story 3, you were funny, nice job man.

But I’m sure viewership will be much higher for this years Academy Awards and the Academy and whoever had the rights to air it will love it. Next year, it’ll be the same boring show and people will watch, then complain. I truly feel like the Academy Awards don’t even have to be aired, I think it’s just one big fashion show. They could easily do the Academy Awards without the cameras, but people like me and my twitter friends will watch and bring in ratings and money and then complain. But no one is really caring that we are complaining now are they? They got their money and ratings.

The show went on, and all was well. I truly just don’t understand what people expected to make it great. For the Academy Awards I thought it was just fine. Not like I was thoroughly entertained but I expected that before I decided to watch. I didn’t just decide to stay in and think the Academy Awards were going to provide me with an exciting night. That’s why I was flipping back and fourth between Sleepers. Great movie, I wonder if that won any awards. Hmm, I may Wikipedia it.

Till tomorrow.
