I saw these photos yesterday I believe or maybe the day before and I thought there was something definitely wrong about them. I’m referring to the photos of Beyonce in which she had darkened her face in a photo shoot for a French magazine. I think sometimes it’s hard to come to the defense of African American’s or even the critique of them without it coming across as racism. Here I believe I am critiquing Beyonce and this magazine and defending African Americans.
The moment I saw these photos, they didn’t sit right with me. I didn’t see the fashion in darkening a black woman’s skin. It’s like thinking ‘oh you’re not black enough, lets make you more black’… which is ridiculous. Beyonce is black as much as Halle Berry is or Oprah or Michelle Obama. If you’re paying tribute to someone then perhaps your whole body should have been coloured darker because I’m pretty sure I saw full body shots. I’m glad that I’m not the only person who thought these pictures were a little wrong. It’s more interesting too because I saw a photo of Beyonce on Just Jared about a week ago but refrained from writing a post on it. Here is that pic below.
Yes that is Beyonce. I almost had to take a second look. Her skin is super light in these photos. I get darker than that by June. I thought it was a Caucasian celebrity and thought Just Jared had put the wrong name in the headline. I think it’s very interesting to see the contrast in her skin colour. I understand that the top is coloured, but still, I think the ones below are crazy light.
Is this Beyonce’s natural colouring? You can’t be too sure. Because if this is normal, how did she get so light in the second photo? I don’t know. Maybe people are making more of the situation then they should be. Maybe I’ve put too much thought into this already. I just think these pictures reveal something. Maybe not necessarily to do with only Beyonce, but perhaps Hollywood and African Americans and how they are portrayed or how they have to portray themselves. Who knows? We all know I have no idea what I’m talking about considering I’m neither African American or a celebrity.
These photos just made me think.

I think she has had rhinoplasty more than once. When I saw her on Idol the other day I barely recognized her. I first noticed Beyonce in that crazy Austin Powers movie, she was so cute as Foxy Cleopatra. It's really sad that young beautiful girls like Beyonce don't think they are good enough for Hollywood. And yes she is very light in that picture of her in her aqua high heels, but she is usually a beautiful bronze. In her childhood photos she was very dark, but as the grandmother of African American children I know that the lighting in a photo has a huge impact on the results. My grandchildren are dark and absolutely beautiful but in some pictures they look much lighter than they actually are and in some they look much darker than they actually are. So it's hard to tell what is going on, but there is no way she should be as white as a sheet and why would she want to be? She's gorgeous, but if she becomes a plastic surgery addict she will ruin her looks.
