It’s great to know that when a man sexually assaults a woman, and goes to court about it, he can get away with no jail time. I just finished complaining about the sexual assault that happened in Egypt and how their new Egypt hopefully will take fierce action against these crimes. Read the article here. Well Canada, lets lead by example.
Don’t worry Egypt your not alone. Canada doesn’t seem to prosecute rapists well either. That’s generalizing. Manitoba doesn’t prosecute rapists well. Also, generalizing. Robert Dewar doesn’t prosecute them well. He gave a man no jail time but a two year conditional sentence for raping a woman, forcing sex on her against her will, something she will have to deal with for the rest of her life.
What peace of mind is his victim going to get knowing her rapist is out, in the community? Where was she taken into consideration when this judge decided not to give him any jail time?
This “judge” (I’m using air quotes cause I feel like he is a joke) alluded to the victim’s outfit as somewhat of an invitation. Just because I’ll be looking smoking hot one night, does not mean I’m inviting anyone to touch me. Hear that judge. Seems like he’s judging the victim instead of judging the rapist.
Now we all understand why so many sexual assault cases go unreported, because of judgemental jerks like him who may imply women bring it on themselves for being flirty or dressing provocatively. That does not invite anything. Nothing invites sexual assault. Ah, I am super annoyed right now.
I’m glad an appeal is being considered and that the people in Manitoba are throwing a fit about this. If you can’t rely in the justice system, at least you have your community supporting you.
Till tomorrow.
